Introduction

The exhibition

We are looking at a selection of works by some of the most important figurative artists in the Spanish art scene. This exhibition includes works by Esperanza Parada (1928-2011), Amalia Avia (1930-2011), Julio López (1930-2018), Francisco López (1932-2017), María Moreno (1933-2020), Carmen Laffón (1934-2021), Antonio López (1936), Isabel Quintanilla (1938-2017), Cristóbal Toral (1940), and José Hernández (1944-2013).

This artistic collection spans from the 1950s to the present day, giving us a clear perspective on the evolution of figurative painting in Spain. It presents a complete and interconnected set of different techniques such as drawing, painting, and sculpture by these ten multifaceted creators.

Furthermore, the diversity and dynamism of this exhibition are enriched by the variety of genres explored. Human figures, still lifes, interiors, and landscapes guide the viewer through this artistic journey. We can see that each of these painters and sculptors has their own personality, style, and technique, which is evident in this selection of works. Each of them has created a unique artistic world that distinguishes them from the others.

However, they are united by a shared artistic vision and a common language: figurative art. They follow the principles of their movement, which values both modernity and truthfulness. This way of seeing and, above all, of interpreting reality, reflects what Aristotle described as the only true reality.
