“La Venus de Estepona” was inaugurated in 2012, becoming the first mural of the well-known ‘Murals Route’ in Estepona. It measures 120 square metres, and it was painted on the facade of one of the buildings of the Barriada Mar y Sierra.

This mural was totally financed by La Caixa Foundation, and it is a work by Ana Cecilia Salinas, who has a large international career. Later on, she also painted other wonderful murals around the town.

“La Venus de Estepona” represents different images of the city. Among these images, the famous statue “La Venus” stands out. According to the artist, in this work she wanted to symbolize the rise of the town, and she also admits having been inspired by the famous statuette ‘La Venus’ for this work. This prehistoric statuette, which dates back to 5000 years ago, was found in August 2011 and it has become the official symbol of the town. It can be contemplated in the Archaeological Museum of Estepona.
